I am pleased to announce that my mentor, colleague and friend Connie Drummond has been nominated for the NAACP Image Awards Hometown Champions.
Connie Drummond, Playwright and the Visionary behind Lady C Productions, started her production company in order to give talented people that do not necessary “look the part” the opportunity to showcase their talents and pursue their dreams of becoming stage actors. Well I happen to be one of those actors.
Connie gave me my first role ever in her first play “North Philly Billies” as “Dr. Anderson” a small but important part as the character that opened and closed the show. I will never forget that day because i was honored and scared to death when it came time to go on stage. But Connie worked with me in my first scene ever and from that moment I was bitten by the acting bug.
That play went on to become the recipient of the 2014 Benevolent Playwright Award for community activism & was accepted into the D.C. Black Theatre Festival. Wow, I never would have imagined in my wildest dreams. But Connie did.
She went on to write 10 more plays and helped more people realize their dreams of acting by teaching basic theatre to low income youth and working with theatre groups. I went on to perform in 7 stage plays including three musicals and one movie, totaling over 35 shows to date.
I have to thank Connie Drummond for introducing me to the wonderful world of performing arts and I’d like to congratulate her on being nominated for the NAACP Image Awards Hometown Champions.
