Greetings Ladies and Gentlemen,
For the first time March 26, I will be the board host for a play at the Wilmington Drama League. “Lips Together, Teeth Apart” As the board host my job will be to give the curtain speech ie. Welcome you to the Wilmington Drama League’s 81st season, identify your nearest emergency exits, remind you to turn off all mobile devices and unwrap your candy, that taking pictures or video is strictly prohibited. Beer and wine are available for sale at our bar at intermission, as well as soda, water, and snacks. Etc.
We like to think of the Drama League as a close-knit community, which is run almost entirely by volunteers. Every actor, director, designer, technician, usher, and bartender are here because they love this theatre. If you want to get involved, we’d be happy to have you! Come talk to me at intermission or after the show.
Finally, your support helps keep theater alive here at the Wilmington Drama League. If you enjoyed your experience, we hope you’ll consider making a small (or not so small) donation to our theater. Visit any table in the lobby and you’ll find a brochure which outlines how to take part in our producers campaign.
In the dark comedy “Lips Together, Teeth Apart,” a gay community on Fire Island provides an unlikely setting for two straight suburban couples who are discovered lounging poolside, staring out to sea. Sally and Sam have inherited the house from Sally’s brother, who recently passed away. Through monologues unheard by the others and everyday moments riddled with underlying tension and biting wit, the characters reveal a desperate sense of individual isolation. The only people these four characters find more alien than each other are the gay men partying blissfully in the houses on either side of them. As they divert themselves from their own mortality with food, cocktails, fireworks, charades and jabs at each other and the boys next door, these four individuals in crisis begin to confront their deepest secrets, prejudices and insecurities. Rebecca May Flowers , Director/Choreographer
