Host Linwood Jackson will be speaking with Scott W. Loehr, the Chief Executive Officer of the Delaware Historical Society, on The Linwood Jackson Radio Show. Please join us 2-3 live Sunday April 12, 15 @ http://www.wfai1510.com/programs/20
A few months after the “The Historical Society of Delaware, Inc.” was founded on May 31, 1864, William Bringhurst presented the first recorded gift to the organization, “A Piece of the Boat in which Washington crossed the Delaware.” From that modest beginning, the society has acquired an extraordinary collection of more than 3,000,000 objects, books, documents, photographs, and maps related to Delaware’s past.
Two historic flags given by the people of Delaware in August 1862 to the 1st Delaware Volunteer Infantry are at last being conserved and readied for exhibiting, 150 years after their war-torn usage. One is the regimental flag, its the earliest known use of the Delaware state flag; the other is a U.S. flag. They were flown in the front lines of the Civil War battles of Antietam, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg with the regiment, which served in the II Corps of the Army of the Potomac.
April 9th, 2015 will mark the 150th anniversary of one of the United States’ most historical moments, The conclusion of the Civil War. Scott W. Loehr, will be on the show to tell us about their civil war flag campaign called, “Rally Round the Flags”, and more of whats going on at The Historical Society of Delaware.
